Reselling International Edition Textbooks, Legal?

Me and a friend of mine wanted to make from the huge difference in prices of International Editions and US Editions of textbooks. Here's what we're are planning to do.

Bookstores in Hong Kong wont ship international editons to US because of copyright or trademarks issues (i think perhaps...). So my friend who is in HK is going to purchase them, then ship them to me, and I'll sell the books to the students here in US.

Is this practice legal? Can the International Edition books go through the customs? Like could they do anything if they found like 30 international edition textbks in a huge parcel.

These "grey market" textbooks are legal to sell in the U.S. under current law. However, if you are importing sizeable quantities into the U.S., the treasury department (customs) may require you to pay import duties or tariffs.
