I manage 8 people on my team. All my reviews have been positive and been able to deliver on my project or task. I need help to understand what my options are:
-When my managers approach my employees and override the project I assigned. He wants them to work on his project. My employees are scared so they drop everything to work on his project. I am not being advise of change.

My issue
-I am not made aware of my employees not working on task I assigned. When I follow up, I am told that my manager asked them to work on another task. I asked why they did not tell me they are concerned for job.
-I asked my manager why he didn't let me know so I can move things around. He indicated that he did not have time.

This happens constantly I have had to conversation with my boss and my employees to please let me know so I can move resources, or I take on the task. But this does not happen. For the last year my average work week is 60 hours because of this game my boss plays by moving things around.

Any advice.

This is not a legal issue but an internal one. Do your employees let you know when your manager re-assigns them?

Have you talked to HR about the problem?

While I completely understand your frustration, this is not something where the law is going to take a stand. It's something you need to work through the company for.

A year? Well, that's not going to change. Your boss is on a power trip. If you go to his boss or HR you'll be labeled a malcontent and your future with that company will be doubtful.

Either accept the status quo and work within it as best you can or seek employment elsewhere.

If your boss didn’t play this game how many hours per week would you work? Passive aggressively play the game and collect your paycheck. This isn’t the first situation of its kind nor will it be the last. Many years ago my boss sent me to a rather intensive management school because “I needed it” according to him. When I completed the course I realized that my boss needed that training much more than I did.

Did you tell him that?

;)
Of course not. That would have been career and financial suicide. My boss was an elitist that knew the latest management techniques for others to see but operated completely opposite in practice. OP will be better able to survive once they know how to operate in that environment.

Thanks for reply. Human resources do not let us know we have another boss. If I talk to HR a label is place that I am a troublemaker. I provided HR with medical details I have bipolar, anxiety, PTSD, depression. I take medication for my condition. in conjunction I have diabetes and vertigo. Not sure if HR or my manager give any consideration to my medical condition.

What do your medical issues have to do with your manager reassigning tasks?

They're not required to. Not on the basis of your just telling them you have the condition. Nor do I understand how your medical condition and your manager reassigning your people are related.

If you can relate the two for me in a logical fashion, I MAY have a suggestion for you. Not definitely, and even if it does there's no guaranteed. But tell me what you've got.

I provided them medical documents and indicated I would keep them in the loop. I push myself to work I do not want any handout. I tried to get additional information.
