What is the name of your state? Upstate New York
Recently a family member came into my house uninvited, she has been storing "stuff" in my basement for the last 9 years, out of the blue she demanded her cabagage patch dolls be dug out and returned immediately!, I told her no I could not go and dig them up as I was on my way out, and that if she would like to set a date to meet and get her stuff that would not be a problem. She pushed her way passed me and headed for the basement, I told her I would call the police that I wanted her out of my home right away. she refused and I called the police who told her exactly as I did, that she would have to make an appointment to retrive her stuff, The next day I removed all of her stuff and she took it.
She is a very heavy drinker, and I am truly afraid of her and what she is capable of doing! Last week my childrens birthday photos were in the local newspaper with a small write up, after the photos ran, I received a call from the paper and they said an old man was in and wants the photos re-ran with the grandparents name? (this man was my mothers boyfriend) I told them no, HE is NOT a grandparent and I would not give consent for him to put my childrens names in the paper again. Please help me, I just want these people to stay away from me and my family. Since I did have to call the police for her entering my home uninvited is that enough to get a restraining order? And where do I get one?
I an open to suggestions, moving is not an option.
Thanks, Diane

Yes. You can get a restraining order against a family member.

Go to the courthouse and find the prosecutor's office and get the RO.

There will be a fee.
