I know there was an interest in posting the results of my Pro Se attempt at getting my DWI reduced to careless driving without the assistance of an attorney.

Today was my arraignment. I talked to the prosecutor myself. The prosecutor agreed to reduce the charge to careless driving. I told the judge I was guilty of the charge of careless driving. I also told him "I have strong remorse for what I did and it will never happen again." To which he simply replied "I believe you." He gave me a $200 fine. And I have to attend a MADD panel.

So there! To all who have attorneys breathing down their backs about how important it is to hire one, well, in my case, an attorney was not needed.

A short background on my case: Was pulled over because the license plate lights on my car weren't working, although today at court I found out the police did write in the report that I swerved. I blew a .08 on the intoxilator 5000 at the police station. This was my first offense.

Oh and I thought this was so very interesting -- some guy at court today got a 103 mph speeding ticket (103 in a 50 zone) thrown out! He had another charge of driving without insurance, which he plead guilty to. He told the judge he had just bought some sportscar and was trying it out -- the judge actually laughed. I was ready to puke, was in utter shock. This guy could have easily killed someone at that speed and the judge laughed at it! Frankly I think what he did (driving 103 in 50) put more people in harms way than what I did (going straight down the road at the speed limit while having had one too many beers, but not feeling impaired).

Thanks for the update.

Read your local paper on public record court report and you will find a lot of people who get charges dropped by pleading guilty to another.

You are delusional. Your actions were just as dangerous as the guy doing 103. Both of you are lucky that no one was killed due to your respective irresponsibility.
