What is the name of your state? texas

More than 12 yrs ago, when i was younger, careless and free, I screwed up my credit. I left this country and comback after 12 years, i was told everything that i had about my credit will be erased in 8 yrs, and i thought this would be a good chance for me to start over and maintain it in good standing..... few days ago i recieved a call telling me i owe bank of amerca a a tremendous amount and he is giving a special deal to settle it, Thinking its a collection agency i just ignored the call and hang up. am i still liable of more than a decade debt? would this affect my present credit standing if i contnue to ignore this calls? what possible action would this people do?

Am starting over my life straight and i would hate to lose it again just because of this a decade old debt.....I dont even remember if i actually owe that much.
