rent commercial property, month to month. i recently reported a code violation to the city i am in here in calif and i am afraid that the landlord has somehow found out. she has suddenly given me only a verbal huge rent increase i feel in an effort to force me to move. if i don't vacate, will i be able to claim retaliation in court and buy myself some time to properly move my business which involves livestock.
thank you

You are an IDIOT! got that!

I cant believe you would have a business with a month to month lease... And then to complain and have a violation against the LL.......FOOLISH, FOOLISH FOOLISH.

The landlord can raise the rent with a 30 day notice...and she did...NOW pay it or move.

HOPEFULY.. You will learn from this expensive mistake

PS you could declare Bankruptcy and get more time to move!
