What is the name of your state? NC case.

Can an employer discontinune providing group term life for retirees after the plan has been in effect for years?

If it is allowed, then you should be given the option to continue to coverage by paying the full premium yourself.

Yes, they can - no law requires a co. to continue life ins. for retirees unless there is a contract that indicates they are to do so. Are they allowing you to "convert" the group coverage to a permanent individually owned policy that you pay the premiums on? Usually, you are only given a certain amt. of time after term. of the gr. ins. to apply for this individual policy.
