What is the name of your state? I'm in NY, they're in CT
My friend was unfaithful to his girlfriend (they were engaged but not yet married). I know because he told me about it. I discussed it openly and publicly with others, I just didn't think much about it being a secret, after all it was true and they weren't married. Since then they have gotten married and grew distant from me. Now they have threatened me with civil action since they say I caused them great harm and embarassment. Apparently it's now well-known where she works.
I always thought if it's true, I'm clear. However I've learned a lot about things like "Invasion of Privacy" since then. I was told by a first-party to the affair, so have they given up privacy by informing me? Would revealing an affair pre-marriage be considered pro-se or would they have to actually prove what harm had come to them. And could any harm be considered given they were not married? Also, is this actually invasion of privacy and would "false Light" apply to this case?
