What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? wa
Is there any way to reverse a street vacation? Once it's sold to a private party from public, are there any exceptions in law that would allow a revisit to the process and a reversal?

Ask your local municipality what to do in order to get them to take over "ownership" of the street.

In my area, the city will only accept "donated" streets that meet specific criteria, such as 24 feet wide, paved, with curbs and drains.

if the street was one that was to be planned but never built I would think that your city council person can tell you first if they were required to send a notice to other home owners that it was going to be for sale , you can ask if they were supposed to offer to split it between two properties , you can learn what they were supposed to do then follow thru and see if the did it. many cities split city owned land that is not buildable as it is between adjacent land owners to get it back on the tax rolls so if this land was adjacent to yours then learn how they were supposed to notify the public (owners on each side of it )
