I have lived in the same apartment for the last 9 years and always had good relations with the landlord. He never would give us a lease. I was thinking of moving out and have a few questions...can I use my deposit towards the last months rent? does the landlord by law in Massachusetts have to give me the interest on the deposit that has been sitting in an account for 9 years? Since he might refuse us the interest can I subtract that from the last months rent? Also, to complicate things the electric company came out to do some testing at my request and found that the common area hall lights have been on our box for 9 years, but the landlord had an electrician fix the problem. He offered no restitution, but we didn't press the issue since the rent was reasonable at the time..please help! Thanks

I would think the landlord owes you some money not just the security deposit but 9 years worth of electricy.

OK college grad......do you know how to figure this out?

Probably not or eles you would have told me.

First how many lights are we talking about? how many watts are the lights each? how long do they stay on?

then multiply the wattage times the numer of lights times the number of hours a day times 365 days times 9 years

then divide that number by 1000

then check your elctric bill and it should tell you exactly what you are being charged in cents per KWH.

then multiply that by the above number and see how much you were overcharged.

she what not going to college can do ...makes you smarter
