What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia, My mother passed recently and my brother has all her policies and handled all funeral arrangements. He told me I was beneficiary on a policy. We had a fight and now he won't contact me. The funeral home won't give me any information and I don't know what to do next. I can't afford a lawyer( which he knows), any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't know the ins company, while momma was in hospice he got all the ins. policies and after her death he filed them thru the funeral home. The funeral home said since he signed the papers only he could get the information on them. When I called the funeral home the first time they told me their was a policy in my name and the money would be sent to me. I called back 3 weeks later and they said they were told not to release any info to me. Thanks

If you're a beneficiary on a policy, the ins. co. should contact you once they are notified of the death & handle the claim. I "assume" your brother will notify the ins. co. of your Mother's death. However, do you know the name of the co. that issued the policy you are bene on? If so, you can call them. If you are a bene, they most likely will/should tell you.
