What is the name of your state? IN

I didn't know my father. His name wasn't on my Birth Certificate. My mother told me she didn't know him. Well I got married and filed for a new SS card my father's name was on my record there. Thats all I got was a name. Now my question is can you just make a name up like that (fraud), my mother "made" it up, and two what r my rights to that information. I don't want his SS # or ne thing. I'd just like an address, city, or state.

Can you clarify what you mean by:

It would be odd for your father's name to be on your social security records if its not on your birth certificate. It would also be odd for you to even find out any information about your records just through an application to change your name to your married name.

Also can you clarify:

What name did your mother make up? Your last name? The father's name on your social security records?

I'm sorry for not being clearer its just one jumble in my head.

The first time I filed for the new card I did it by mail. The application asked for my Mother and Father's information along with my own. I assume for idenity purposes. Well not knowing my father I left that part blank and mailed it in. They sent it back to me with Father's information circled. So I had to go to the office, I guess they had it flagged and asked the information again in person. When they asked for my father's I told her I didn't know. The women replied it says here.... and just gave me the name.

I asked my mother about the name they gave me at the SS office. She said she just made it up. I don't see how she could make my father's name up to the SS office. I have her last name.

I just want to find my father who would be able to help me?

Hopefully, the lady at the Social Security office verified your identity before giving out that information. Have you asked your MOTHER about all of this?

Unless you know at least his real name....and perhaps some other identifying information, it would be impossible to find your father....I am sorry. Talk to your mother again.

I have his real name but thats it. My mother will not tell me anything. She thinks she shouldn't have to share me, with anyone.

The child in question is now a married adult.....and we know nothing about the circumstances of the conception. Plus, since it was 20 some years ago there was still some stigma attached to unwed situations.

The only thing my father had wrong with him is that he's black. Twenty years ago it wasn't so much the unwed thing as it was the inter-racial thing. My grandparents might have disowned her. When she was 4-5 mo preg she told ppl she was raped. It was never reported though.
