What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Illinois.

Does anyone know whom the risk of loss passes to when we have lost goods, the seller or the buyer? I sold a relatively expensive book ($57) on Half.com which was never delivered to the buyer by the carrier, USPS. My proof of shipping is my delivery confirmation receipt (the receipt you get when you ship something with a tracking number). I read that the risk of loss normally passes to the buyer when the good (s) in question is (are) delivered to a common carrier. I don't know, however, if this applies to my case. Thanks for your help in advance.

You are right. The risk of loss transfers to the Buyer upon tender of goods to Buyer, the Buyer's representative, or a common carrier.
