What is the name of your state?
Louisiana

I just received a check from my insurance company to cover a new roof after damage from Katrina. The check is made out to the estate of my father since that is the name on the insurance policy. I have been living in the house for the past 3 years after he died and have been paying the insurance. If I give the check to the attorney handling the succession he will want to disburse it to all the named decendents after the succession is completed and not replace the roof. What can I do?
