What is the name of your state? MI

We just closed on our "new" 66 yr. old house at the end of May. Did not move in until July. We found out that the roof leaks. We have a home warranty ( what a joke ) but they are not being helpful. They sent out a roofing contractor. He looked at the roof and said it needed to be repaired. When we called for status, we were told that there was a discrepancy with that roofing company and they would send another company.
When we called today for status, they said if we do not hear from them by 12:00 tomorrow, we should call them for "other" arrangements.

It also really makes me mad....the home inspector and the sellers said nothing about a roof leak. We had to use buckets!!!!!! Do we have any other recourses?? Is the seller responsible at all?? I cannot believe this "just started".

Our homeowners insurance has been in place since the closing.
Are we able to make a claim against the home owners insurance? Should we??

Thanks,

No, a leaky roof is not covered by your homeowners insurance policy unless a covered incident caused the leak. For example, if high winds blew shingles off the roof, which then caused it to leak. However, you MAY be able to claim for the indirect damages caused by the roof leak, although you are required to mitigate those damages. Again, for example, the leak caused damaged to clothes that were stored in the attic, so you may be able to receive $ for the actual cash value of the clothes, minus our deductible.
