A little before our lease was up in Texas, my roommate moved and joined the army. She took most of her belongings but not all. She did not lift one finger to clean the apartment, not even in her room. Upon my leaving, I had to rent a carpet cleaner for paint and other stains in her carpet and buy numerous supplies to clean the apartment. I had to patch walls in her room. I had to have 5 people come and help me clean, especially in her room. She left things for me to dispose of that she was too lazy to throw away or pack. It now has been nine months and she is just now calling about her deposit. Because of the two days that six people spent cleaning the apartment, I was able to get the full deposit back. I told her that I would send her half of her deposit because of all the work and supplies I had to get to do her share. Her deposit was $200 and I told her I would send her $100. With all the supplies added up it came over $115. Her and her husband are now leaving threatening messages on my machine, calling repeatedly and hanging-up and are threatening to press charges and go to the police. I feel that I am being fair giving her half of her deposit back. What do you think?
