Hopefully someone can help! I moved out of my apartment in Feb 2001. (I have all documentation, change of address, hotel receipt, moving truck receipts, etc) The phone bill was originally in my name. I called phone company to take my name off the bill--they said the other roomate would have to call to accept the change. I was told by the roomate that the change had been made. In July, I received a bill from the phone company for $300. According to the phone company, they never made the change on the account and they are stating that I am responsible for the charges. I contacted the old roommate and he is refusing to pay. He states he will not pay unless a judge tells him he is responsible. Do I have a case against him in Small Claims? Please help

Not totally true. You do have to pay the phone company, but can sue your ex-roomate to recover. Be sure to include filing fees.

It's an inconvenience, but that's the price you pay for being stupid and not simply closing the phone account outright when you left.
