I signed a lease for an apartment with myself, my girlfriend, and two others with my girlfriend's mother cosigning for the lease. Long story short, the others were hell to live with and we wanted out. We moved out prior to the end of our lease, continuing to pay for rent for the two months remaining on the lease, and also gave our required 30 day notice. Now the lease is done, but the other roommates have not yet left, nor have they paid for their extended "stay, and our cosigner has received the eviction notice. We can afford to pay for the backrent they owe, but how can we end our legal connection to this apartment without involving courts?
