What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? i live in wisconsin, three co workers while i was absent spread rumors about why i wasnt there, i just heard the rumor yesterday and i want to know if i have any legal choices, these people have done this before to others. it seems to be a game to them to spread nasty hurtful rumors. it was very hurtful to me, and i know it has caused damage to my reputation, as everyone loves a good lie...

Before anyone can answer your question you will need to tell us specifically what they said.

Well, yes it will matter what was said, but if these people have done this to others, don't you think everyone knows they are full of it? If what they said was as juvenile as their behavior, just let it go. You said yourself that everyone loves a good lie...and my bet is your other coworkers know they are liars.
