My husband and I were in a very bad accident. He ran a stop sign and we were hit by a drunk driver. My husband ran the sign because of many reasons. The intersection had only recently been created. It is on hwy 50, the 'loneliest hiway in America. The map we had did not show the two hiways crossing. Hwy 50 is a major interstate where one would not normally expect to see a stop sign. the intersection did not have pre warnings--traffic revision ahead, Stop ahead, lights, rumble strip. We had just passed through a small town, where at it slowest, was posted as 25mph. As we leave teh own the speed limit signs gradually increase 10mph unil finally reaching 65mph. After resuming hiway speed, there are no posings to slow down. Just before he intersection the hiway goes from two lanes to four. The stop sign of course was furthest to the right. The other hiway was also 65mph. Our motorhome was struck dead center by a large older model car. We were all hurt but amazingly no one was killed. Shouldn't the hiway dept or the county or someone have some responsibility hear.

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Okay, I think you have a case. If the newly constructed highway was as you described it, this is what you will need to do to bring a case against the proper government authority responsible for negligent construction.

Step 1: immediately go back on that route that led to your accident and video tape it -- to show no signs or warnings are up.

Step 2: Get an accident attorney who specializes in government induced accidents (i.e. construction defects, etc.)

You do this in one or both of two ways:
1. Go to attorneypages.com and find an attorney in your state.
2. Call your local STATE BAR and ask for the lawyer referral section.

Hope this helps.
