Do you have any proof that the money is gone?
For example, if you gambled at a casino, you may be able to show the credit card or checks written to the casino. Plus your current bank statement.
If you can show the money is gone and where it went...
If they accept this story, you will lose your SSI benefits for one month. (the month you received the money) and then you will keep your SSI without more problems.
If you can't show the money is gone and where it went....
I am not quite sure how they will handle it.
If the money was given to someone....
If you wrote a check or gave cash to another person this may cause problems.
Do you have a history of gambling addiction? If yes, it may help if you bring a letter from your mental health doctor stating that you have a gambling addiction.
Also.... just checking....
1. do you know if you are on SSI or SSDI? Many people confuse these two things.
2. is there any money left at this point? do you have more than $2,000 right now?
3. do not give any money away, that will cause problems. there are other things you can do with money that are safer.
