What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New york

Does anyone have a link to a government site or what the law is on selling a gun to an individual in NY State? I want to relieve my wife of any legal repsponsibility for our shotgun. I want to buy it from her so that the gun is legally mine. I don't want to run off and do something stupid. I just want to put her mind at ease that she no longer owns this gun.

Why does she not want to own a gun ?

Senerio: She is or would be a convicted fenon barred from use and possesion of a firearm.. Any firearm in the home would not be wise .
