I recently bought a car in SC. The car dealership called my bank and got the payoff. All papers were signedand figured based on that payoff amount. I wrote them a check for the amount to be financed through my bank, not through the dealership. @ weeks later, they are saying that they payoff amount was wrong( even thought they called the bank). Am I obliged to pay the difference?
We have since found out that the payoff was quoted incorrectly by the bank, but they refuse to take ownership even thought they have it documented that they quoted the wrong amount.

I know that the dealership is going to have to pay this amount to ge the title of the car before they can sell it.
To me, the responsability lies in the hands of the dealership once the papers are signed.

Any opinions?

So, if you had no clue/nor could reasonably know the true amount owed, then it is the mistake of the entity who made it and it is their burden to fix, not you.

On the other hand, if you had reason to know the balance was wrong, then you should pay.
