I obtained a retail license in hopes of developing a business after I lost my job in July 1999. I requested to file quarterly since I did not anticipate much sales. I got a new job in September and I simply forgot to file the sales tax return for December of 1999. I had no sales and therefore had no obligation. In May 1999, I received a notice of Lien for SC Dept Revenue. Upon receipt of the letter, I called the office listed and asked what I needed to do. I was told to submit a return for December, and I did. Since I had not heard anything, I was confident that the issue was resolved. I just received another lien notice in the amount of $2,647.70. I do not have this much money, and I have no way to obtain it. What recourse do I have? I will be destroyed if my salary is confiscated. Please reply ASAP!
