What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CALIFORNIA

As the title said, I recently bought a car off a person off of craigslist. When i bought the car I was too excited and naive since it was my first car. I glanced over the paper work and didnt realize that the certificate of title DID NOT match the car's VIN number. I was also stupid enough to not sign any paper work or bill of sale. I called the seller back and he said he purchased the car from a customer, being he works at a body shop. He claimed that he would go to the customer and get the paper work to me overnight, its been a couple of days and i received nothing. I called him back and he claims that it should be on the way and will give me a tracking number. Now he wont pick up my phone calls. WHat should i do?
