What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? california. i realize i don't have any chance of recovering what they took but i will try to explain, more clearly, what happened. a few months ago, i was in need of cash so i decided i would pawn the platinum three-stone engagement ring that i have. i pawned the ring and a week later i went back to get it. by the way, this pawn shop requires that you call them and let them know the day before you want to pick up any jewelry because it's kept at the owners residence. i arrived the next day and told the guy at the counter that i wanted to pick up my ring. he asked for the tag, i gave it to him along with the loan amount owed, he went to the back of the store, returned a few seconds later, removed the ring from the paper pouch, handed it to me and said "there ya go". i said "thank you" and left. when i got home, i proceeded to place the ring in the ringbox and it didn't seem to sparkle like it had before. i looked closer and noticed the condition of the setting. it was bent and mangled badly. i took a look at the center diamond and noticed a chip in it. it had obviously been tampered with by someone that didn't care what damage they caused. i was angry as hell so i went to get the receipt and realized i didn't get one. i had given him the tag so that he could go back and get the correct paper pouch. when he handed me the ring and said "here ya go", i didn't even think about a receipt because all i was worried about was getting the ring. and actually, when i did business at the other pawn shop, that's how he did it too. i gave him the tag and the money, he gave me the drill, i left. so anyway, i didn't know what to do about it. then, yesterday i needed cash and i had no choice but to pawn my now pathetic looking ring. i went to the same place because i figured they wouldn't want the chipped turd stone back and maybe i could get a copy of the original pawn slip tag receipt thing. so, when she took the ring, she immediately inspected it and said, "are you aware that the center stone is chipped?" i answered "yes" and she printed out the invoice. i noticed as i was signing it that it said, ".25 ct centerstone with chip" this time. then, i put my thumb print on it, she took it, separated the copies and said "oops, it didn't go through. let me print it again." as i signed the "second copy" of the invoice i realized that there was no need to ask for a copy of the original tag because i had most likely signed the revised version of it when i thought i was signing the new invoice that supposedly "didn't go through". remember, it was on the first invoice that i saw "with chip". the diamond that they took was only .50 ct, but it was worth about $3,000.00 because it was flawless! the turdstone they put in it's place is chipped and basically, worthless.
