I recently purchased a home from a scam artist and paid the taxes on said property and started the improvements. The true owner, who left the home vacant for 5 years has come back. What legal actions may I take to keep the property.

Also, the true owner is the mastermind behind a $100 million ponzi scheme.

Report the crime to the authorities.

Sue the scam artist.

You are welcome to name the owner in your lawsuit but nothing suggests that he had anything to do with the scam.

By the way, did you do (or have done) a title search before you bought the property?

Bought an owner's title policy when you did buy it?

Take any other precautions before signing anything or handing over any money?
