What is the name of your state? I am in Florida the other party is in Louisiana.

I ordered 3 custom made screen doors online in December. The seller promised them in 3 to 4 weeks but it is now mid March and I have no doors. I paid a $425 deposit by check in December.

I periodically email the seller and usually get a prompt response that he is working on the doors as fast as he can and will be done soon. I am beginning to suspect that I may never get the doors. The next step in this process was supposed to be that he would email me a picture of the doors at which point if they looked good I was to pay the balance and he would ship them to me. I am thinking that sending good money after bad may not be a good idea here, but I realize that might give him the excuse he needs to keep the deposit and send me nothing.

If he does ask for the rest of the money is there anything I can do to get myself more legal protection when I pay him?

Any suggestions as to what I can do to either get my money back or spur the guy to actually get the doors done and sent to me would be appreciated. Right now I would be happy either way.

I wouldn't send him another dime, and I don't know why you would even consider it! Why would sending him more money make him do anything? You've already shown him that he can do nothing and get $425. You can file a claim against him in small claims court where he resides to get your deposit back.
