School bus issuse

Ok heres the deal I have a special needs child that is in school and rides the bus to school but because of his prolbems (ODD and AHAD) has had some issuse on the bus and the driver today told me his days where numbered.

Little bit of back info. when child started school we where in a diffent city and although the same bus company serivces both places we never had any issue with the bus he was on in the 1st city.

The biggest diffence was that in the 1st city they had a speical bus that went around and picked up the special needs kids that had a driver and someone elas who was trained to handle any issuse that might come up. In the new town there is no spiecial bus. He is just picked up on the same bus that gets all the kids form k - 12 grade and there is only the driver on the bus.

We had left messeage at the bus company and the school but neather has called back.

we are wounding what could happen and what our opition are?

Assuming that your child has an IEP, then transportation is a related service.

The school must provide transportation as appropriate to his needs. If your son cannot follow the rules on the mainstream bus, the school has basically two choices (1) put an aide on the bus to assist him or (2) send a special bus/van/car to transport him.

I would call his case manager and tell them what the bus driver said. Chances are she was way outside her authority to say that. This is a problem that needs to be handled by the school with whomever they have hired to provide transportation as the school remains legally responsible for the related service of transportation.

thank you PQN he dosen't have a iep atm he was under something silmar becuase he had not be offical tested and such. we just got him tested and such in nov. (was order before school started but was forever getting paperwork and such).

When you have your IEP meeting, be sure to address transportation as well as a Behavior Intervention Plan (based on his Functional Behavior Analysis).
