What is the name of your state? Oklahoma

Please forgive me in advance; I am probably blowing this way out of proportion. My oldest son started school a little over a week ago. He is 4 and is enrolled in all day pre-K at our local elementary school. Today, one of the teachers mistakenly put him on the wrong bus, even though his school bag has his bus # printed on it. Needless to say, at 3:30 when he didn_t get off of the bus, I was irate! Luckily the driver of the bus that my son was on, realized that he didn't belong and called the school, then turned around and took him back. The principal just smiled and shrugged his shoulders, saying "sorry about that", like it was no big deal. Keep in mind my son is 4! Is there anything I can do to make sure this NEVER happens again to a child? Is there a way to make sure the teacher gets reprimanded or suspended? Is there any legal action I can take to have her fired? Thanks

Have you thought to teach your child speak up when they get on a bus that has a different driver? What harm was done, the bus driver recognized the child wasn't on their route and returned them to the school and the child was returned safely to you and never out of their custody. Have you ever got on the wrong bus, I have.

AS long as the drivers are certain that the children are ONLY allowed off the bus TO THIER PARENT (as is the policy in my kiddo's school), then the child was never at risk.

Nope. After all, things happen.
However, you can go a long way to assuring it doesn't happen ever again to YOUR child by your picking him up at school YOURSELF!!!
Jeeze... he is FOUR YEARS OLD!!! I can't believe you rely on minimum wage folks to take care of YOUR child!!!

Is there a way to make sure the teacher gets reprimanded or suspended?
God, I hope not. There are far too few good teachers (and too many unrealistic parents!!).

Is there any legal action I can take to have her fired?
Give us a break!!!

How irresponsible of you putting the bus number only on a bookbag. Tattoo it on his forehead and I guarantee no one will ever "misplace" your son ever again.

Unbelievable!

You know..at the beginning of the school year...Sh!t happens.

You are definitely blowing this way out of proportion. Get over it.

Oh and instead of printing his bus number on his backpack...How about teaching it to him!

Kids..Even 4 yr olds can remember simple 4-7 digit numbers. Especially when you take the time to work with your child.

This blows my mind....Your child does not know the number of the bus he takes(which is typically a four digit #)...Does he know his home phone #? What about his address? How about your cell/work #, if heaven forbid anything was to happen to him?

Unbelievable!

Three digit here.

The best way to ensure it never happens again? Hothouse your child and drive him to/from school every day.

I agree..if feasible....some of us it is not...so we teach our children the numbers they need to know.

It may take a whole days' time...but it is worth it.

Any parent that doesn't take the time to teach a simple number..along with phone # or address.....is lacking to say the least

Which holds my opinions concerning the OP.

And just FYI...One of my childen is in Gifted the other is in ESE classes. I have the beauty of both worlds.

I used to be a school bus driver. You have to love kids to do that job. Teaching them the bus # is good, but not always foolproof, buses often go in for service or get changed out. Teach them to recognize driver, other students on bus, which way does it leave the school, etc. Make sure they can speak up and tell the driver thier first and last name. This often happens at the beginning of the year. Bus drivers usually know how many get off at each stop and know all by name in short time. They are trained to check bus at end of route. Your child was never in danger. I am sure it was frightening for you though.
It was an unfortunate accident.

Yep, I realize that. But the only way to ENSURE that it NEVER happens again, is to drive the kid. Otherwise - it might. So a responsible parent gives the child the tools to (a) reduce the chances and (b) know how to deal if it does. Hence the "hothousing" comment.
