I'm from Troy, Michigan and I'm 18 an attend my local high school.
I had my iPod Photo (estimated value around 375 with case) stolen in my gym locker.
Although I know it's partially my fault for bringing it into the locker room and it is "implied" that things of great value shouldn't be brought in, some students had stolen the combination booklets from the gym teachers' offices.
All the administrators knew this and the gym teachers even knew this but the students were never warned and the gym locker doors which should always be locked continue to be left wide open and more and more thefts occur.

My gym teacher (a female teacher) agrees with me and SHE is the one who makes sure that they are locked before we start class. I do more of the male gym teachers' jobs than they do.
Does this fall under, negligence or some other category?
I would let this go if the teachers did their job and/or the students were warned that the theft of the combination books occured. However, I can't live with the fact that this isn't all my fault. In fact, it's very minimal. After all lockers are for the safekeeping of your belongings.

That iPod was bought with my first two paychecks and in my financial situation, it's impossible to afford another one, especially since i have to pay for my tuition next year. It'd be great if someone had a solution.
thanks.

No, the iPod was apparently stolen from a locked gym locker by kids who had stolen the combinations. Which doesn't negate the point that there's a reason why it's foolish to take expensive electronics to school - as OP has learned at a relatively high cost.

Why not call the cops? The FBI? The CIA? The UN? Hezbollah?

I mean, like, your IPOD was stolen from your unlocked gym locker!!!

Never mind...
okay moron, maybe it may sound retarded to you, but maybe a little more respect? Did I somehow offend you with my question?
I was basically asking if there was really nothing to do.
Maybe your out there in the professional work force making money, but I'm a high school student who works as much hours as I can for college and some spending money. I just wanted to buy myself something once before I started saving up my money. Or maybe you don't work in the professional work force and make a living being a jerk on random forums.
Please shut up.

Wow. You guys are really pathetic.
I ask a small question and you guys are playing "retard".
Go slit your throats.
Better yet, get cancer and die.
Hopefully one of you had a relative who died of cancer. :D
The kid who stole it and you two are basically the same types of people.
Like a cancer to society.
Yeah, I quoted the Matrix.

See, and now you turned into an a$$hole. The long and the short of it is that you took a risk by having an expensive piece of equipment at school. iPods are huge targets for theft, and I can guarantee that all your buddies and their buddies and every other Tom, Dick & Harry knew you had it and were leaving it in a locker. It was a foolish thing to do, and unfortunately you had to learn how foolish the hard way. It bites, but it's reality.

Yes, the people here can be quite rude. Check out some of BelizeBreeze's postings. Let me say this. Here in Nashville, TN, it is a violation of school rules to bring electronic equipment to school. The school has the right to take it up. The rationale behind this is that these things may detract from the learning process (kids fooling with them during class, surfing the net and not listening to lectures, etc) AND the school does not want to be responsible for the theft of such items.

Most lockers that have their own combination locks are also equipped for a personal lock. If you gym locker had a place for you to put on your own lock, then I would say that you could have been responsible for securing your items. School lockers are not hard to break into, even without the locker combinations.

Contact the director of high schools in your area, and let him/her know about the theft of the combinations ,and the failure to alert students. See what can be done. The only thing they can say is, "tough luck." Who knows, they may replace your ipod, but I doubt it. Worth a shot.

Ipod

Well i see that i wasnt the only person that got their ipod stolen. mine was stolen by my friends cousin while i was over there. no one wanted to help me so i was just sad and lonely without my ipod. i am 15 now and i got my ipod for my birthday. i cant believe how happy was i when i got it. my parents had to work so hard for me to get it. i never steal . i think of how would i feel if someone would do that to me and it always wins but some people are rude and just steal stuff to get money. they will never know how hard they hurt the other person. i feel sorry for u and me. good luck with ur job and dont worry about ur ipod. everything in life that was stolen will pay back in future.
