What is the name of your state?Indiana I am a in-home daycare provider. Our public school has two elementaries. The school provides busing from both schools to 4 different daycare centers & some in home daycares, all located on the west side of town. The school is refusing to bus students to any sitter on the east side of town. I lose business because I cant get this service, and sitters /centers on the other side can take whomever, regardless of school locations. My parents cant afford center prices. My clients and myself pay taxes that support the school. The centers are all church affiliated therefor dont pay taxes. Can a public school provide this services for some and not all?

Here are some questions? Have you contacted the transportation department and ask why they won't transport to your house? If you did and they answered, what was the answer? If you didn't contact them or they didn't answer you, are you within the school district's boundries? Are you within the standard transportation route for the schools you are requesting transportation from? What would happen if a student went to a school on the west side and lived on the east side? Would the family be responsible for transporting? Most schools have very specific boundries that they will not cross regarding transportation. For elementary aged students it is usually by age and distance. Without some boundries it would be impossible to develop routes. I think starting with the department would provide you the most detailed info.

I have contacted the school transportation supervisor. I originally asked for three students from one elementary (the one outside of my boundries same district though) to be dropped off at the other elementary school and they could walk to my house. Both schools are within 2 miles of each other. Supervisor said they couldnt because of time....They have to drop students off and be back at the high school to p/u by the time that school lets out.

Seems reasonable, except the school offers after school care every year .To operate they need a certain # to enroll,if they dont get enough in one school but have enrollment in both they will combine.Which means they then have time to transfer kids from one elementary to another and still get to the high school.

When I asked why the Centers got transportation to & from both schools,w/ one school being out of the centers school boundries, she didnt know and said it was probably a bit of discrimination but thats the way they do it. (& if you are an in home sitter, on that side of town, they will run both schools to your house.Since they are already on that side of town because of the centers.

I understand not wanting to cross boundries.( more time , more gas, ect)I dont get how they can offer it to some and not the other. I pay school taxes and cant get the service .The centers dont pay taxes and get the service
Parents who can afford the center or a sitter close to one of the four centers can get transportation from either school.Parents that cant afford a center or find a sitter close to one are left w/o transportation to school.

Isnt it discrimination to cross school boundries for some students and businesses and not all? (In case your wondering the schools after school daycare never gets enough interest to operate, even if combining the two schools. If there is a school delay or closing the daycare doesnt operate therefor parents would still have to have another provider@ a moments notice.)

As far as living on east side and going to west side school you are responsible for transportation but if you live on the west side and want to attend the east side school all you have to do is be at one of the bus stops and wait for the east side bus.
This isnt just me or this one family needing transportation. All we have on this end of town are in home sitters, no centers. If we had a bus stop for the other school to p/u & drop off on this end it would benifit many.
