I am going through the hiring process for a fire dept. I have a juvenile record that has been reduced from a 245 a with gbi to a misdemomeaner and sealed. my juvenile custody lasted until i was almost 19 and i spent 5 days in county jail on a probation violation but it was keep in the juvenile court system. if they do a back ground check is any of that going to come up and do I have to disclose that in the application process. also do i have to give them permission to look at my juvenile record if they ask to do so.and the last part of my question is i went to drug rehab twice as a court order do i have to disclose that in my medical history.

Yes, they will probably find out about it. And if they ask about "arrests", unless it says "as an adult" you will have to mention it. "Sealed" does NOT mean expunged or pardoned.

And unless everyone you know has agreed to a plea of silence, they WILL find out about the arrest AND the drug rehab. Depending on how far in the past the arrest was, that may well be less of a concern than the drug rehab issues.

If you fail to be truthful and honest on any part of the application process you CAN be terminated for falsifying the application even if you have been with them for years.

For a complete and thorough evaluation, take the application to an attorney and pay him to answer your questions based on what is asked on the application. But, keep in mind that unless their background consists of calling former employers only, they will probably find out about this stuff, so if you fail to put it down, it will dog you wherever you try to apply.
