You should not wear a seat belt under your armpit. You should follow the manufacturer's instructions for safe seat belt use. Improper use of a seat belt can hurt you more than help you in a car accident.

There are defenses to being stopped for a seat belt violation. See, in the first link provided above, Sections 545.4121 and 545.413.
