my wife and I were married in scotland in '96 in a civil ceremony. we had a proper church wedding in the US (Illinois) in '97, but when we filed for the marriage license, we never disclosed that we were already married to each other.
now we are divorcing in the UK where we live. will the UK divorce, which disolves the 1996 UK marriage, also disolve the 1997 US marriage? was the 1997 marriage ever valid, given that we made a false declaration in obtaining the marriage license?
