What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? I am in CA, the issue is in San Mateo County.

I applied for CalWORKs two years ago (in another county), and reported my son's father as absent.

As a result, an older "aid" record for my son was cross referenced in SM county through a statewide database. Last year I received a call from a county investigator regarding possible section-8 fraud on behalf of the father; he had been receiving funds for four years. He had lied on his application, by claiming that our son was living with him and provided them a social security number.

In an effort to help the investigator out, I went out of my way to obtain copies of school records and submit an affidavit to prove that my son had never lived with him, much less had a relationship with him to that point.

This was something our family had feared would happen for years, as in the years prior to him applying, he had repeatedly asked for my son's SS# (was denied, of course), and I stressed it in my affidavit as a deliberate intent on his part.

The county investigator confronted him, and to my surprise (?) allowed him to simply be cut off immediately in exchange for avoiding prosecution; restitution, even.

I am appalled that a housing authority would let someone off the hook so easily and would certainly like to see something be done, given his long-time plan to carry this out in the first place. I've tried to make contact again with the investigator, but she no longer returns my calls.

Is this commonplace in section-8 fraud cases? Is there someplace or someone else I could turn to? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
