We have a security camera installed in our office which is utilized for safety issues. (we are a small office, deal with large sums of money and sometimes have unruly clients come in). It has come to my attention that one of my co-workers is viewing the tapes at night. This camera picks up a limited area of our office but captures ALL audio in the office. We are only supposed to use these tapes in case someone gets out of hand. My boss has spoken to her but the actions have begun again. My stress level is going sky high because I feel monitored at every moment of the day now - and by a co-worker no less! Help - is there a legal remedy for this? I don't want to quit.

**A: I don't know exactly what your problem is but this is something that your employer must deal with.

Agreed. Tell the boss she's reviewing the tapes again. Apparently she's been told once not to do this. Perhaps they'll fire her this time for disregarding her supervisor's instructions.

I really want to hear about the unruly clients.

**A: sounds like a place of gambling and prostitution. Can we have the address?

HG, save my place. I'll have the regular.

I have to go to North Carolina first to get my name changed.

**A: Ok, but don't change your name again after that or you will have to provide an explanation.

My boss is 15 years younger than this woman and she is very intimidated by her. She has only been in this office 3 years - the troublemaker, 8 years. We have had a huge staff turnover. I think she is afraid to speak to her, but it makes it very uncomfortable (for me and others) to work there, knowing we are being spied on.

You don't want to visit my business - we process your speeding tickets and send you to class to keep it off your insurance. People are so angry that they were caught speeding that we keep a camera on them, because the gal up front has had things actually thrown at her before and threatened. Since the class costs $100, we have a great deal of cash in the drawer at night.

OK, Shadowed, but still, this is an internal matter. Your boss can lock up the tapes, discipline the coworker, or do nothing.

I recommend you write a memo to your boss indicating the evidence you have that the tapes are being viewed, and asking her to address it, as it makes you uncomfortable. She doesn't have to abide by your request, however.
