What is the name of your state? VA

I was recently decline my TS-SCI with full poly after going through my background, passing my polygraph...I have been going through this process for over a year only to get rejected now. I have no crimes, no drug use in the last 2 years (and even then it was minor), no foreign contacts, no financial issues. I am shocked this is happening. Anyone have any explanation how I got this far in the process without getting rejected sooner? Is this a mistake?

My only concern was that my father married a non-US citizen (Brazil) over 2 years ago, for a month, and now are divorced. They were married while I was at school and I have only met her twice. Could this be it? I didn't even remember about it on my SF86 and it never came up in my poly. I also got paid under the table for a couple months one summer where I was very ill with tonsilitis. Could these be it? I feel like I am being screwed...should I get a lawyer to appeal it?

Thanks.

I don't think it had anything to do with your father's brief marriage. Instead your application was probably rejected because they think you showed a pattern of being loose with the law, which you thought was minor, but nevertheless is still breaking the law. For example you took drugs as recently as 2 years before your application. Mind-altering substances are very risky for people who hold sensitive information because your brain and ability to keep secrets is unpredictable when you mess around with drugs. Sometimes this is forgiven with the passage of time but 2 years is still relatively recent. When you worked under the table that is also illegal. Anyone trusted with sensitive information has to show a pattern that they will follow ALL the laws even if they think the law is minor. Because what if someday that person thinks that a law protecting sensitive information can be broken because they think it's no big deal. So that's why your application was rejected. It's not that you did any major crimes or anything like that, it's just that your clearance level requires a high level of trustworthiness and someone who always follows the laws no matter what.

PJ I noticed it is an old post but this one comes up at the top of the Google search results even if you search for it today.
