I left an apartment in Virginia because I lost my job. The landlady was able to find a new tennant within a month so she was not out any rent money. She did not however return my full security deposite. She claimed that I didn't have the carpets steamed, which I did not and she claimed that the apartment was not suitably clean. I don't think the lease said I was responsible for steam cleaning the carpets, she told me orally to steam clean them. I went to great lengths to clean the apartment. The landlady claimed the bathroom and kitchen sink were not suitably cleaned. She only took $110.00 out of the deposite and I am tempted to let it go,but I think she wanted to try to squeeze alittle extra money out of me. I now live in Potomac Maryland and the apartment is in Agusta County VA roughly two hours away can I sue her in an Arlington Conty VA smal claims court? Can she counter sue me for breaking the lease? Thank you.
