What is the name of your state? CA
When we starting living in our apartment complex, we signed a lease and paid money for a security gate key. We chose to live here because of the feeling of security because it was a gated community that you need a gate key or a passcode to get into the complex.
The apartments were recently sold to become condos, and they have removed the security gates and no longer close the gate that leads to the car ports which you needed a passcode to get through before. There is no longer a sense of security in our complex as people are free to come and go freely and have access to the carports and the buildings at any time.

Can I use this as a means to get out of my lease since they no longer have a gated community?
Thank you

unless a security gate is specifically promised in your lease, then no. and just ebcause your lease mentions a gate key or passcode isn't enough. it has to specifically say that a security gate is part of your lease agreement.

You actually think that a gate keeps criminals out? Wake up and smell the coffee... the criminals had free access to the carports before the gate was taken down as well... Nothing changed...
