When did you pay versus when you found out you're still locked out? In what form was the payment made - e.g., cash, check?
If payment was made, and you have a receipt, or if your check cleared the bank and, you are in fact, caught up on your payments, you DO NOT have a right to "self help." You have a right to sue the landlord for "conversion of private property" and any damages flowing therefrom.
