What is the name of your state? Illinois.

We bought our first home yesterday, we went to closing after a month of all the normal process and when we got there after we had signed all of our papers, the seller decided he wasnt getting enough money and demanded we give him 1,000 under the table or he was going to walk. We already termenated our arrangement for where we were living, bought appliances, packed up our home etc. have children and didnt know what to do. We were so upset we just gave them the money, the realtor called it "blackmail". DO we have a case against the seller? We were there for 3 hours while he made demands on everyone it was a nightmare and totally ruined our experiance. We really want to keep this home but was this legal for them to do to us?

This was not legal, keep a copy of the receipt or cancelled check, and take the owner to small claims court. Were there any witnesses? What color was the house?

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
C C Colton.

Well, they say that the weak often try to imitate their masters, usually in an attempt to hide their own shortcomings. And it looks like another fan has taken to try to imitate me on the forum.

He is using the name JEXT.

Enjoy it while you can.... your time is short.

witness

There we many witnesses to this, the realtor, the title company employees, they were all "disgusted" by the whole matter they said and wanted nothing to do with it. Everyone was very upset, the even changed the papers to drop some charges and the realtor ate some of the cost to give them back more money on the sale and they still wouldnt do it without a check from us.

Whether you actually take any legal action or not, get a written statement from each of the witnesses NOW. It can be a very simple few sentences describing what happened and by whom. Make sure that each has it on their own letterhead (if possible) and that they are dated and signed. It is best to get this NOW while their 'interest' is still high.
Once you get these confirmations, THEN you can consider taking legal action, if any.

BTW, the imposter, JEXT is gone.
