What is the name of your state? Minnesota

I listed some computer software on eBay. The software is on CD-Rom, but the license that came with it was on paper. The paper license was lost. The software is original, not installed on any computer(s), etc. The rights holder for the software contacted me and said we couldn't sell the software because we didn't have the license for it. They didn't VERO the auction, they just contacted me.

Just because I don't have the paper license for the software, does that mean I don't have a legal license for it and therefore can't sell it?

Thank you in advance.
