I live in TN. My husband and I have been married for 29 years. He has been physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive to me. We have one 11 year old child still home.
I can't afford to stay in the house, if we separate or divorce??? We have not had sex in 3 years plus? - not because of anything physically wrong, it is another form of "punishment" :( He has moved out 2 times, once, he got a condo with a year's lease, then spent a year at his Dad's apt. He has no intentions of "making the marriage work", says he wants to stay around and make my life miserable:( Can I file for a separation/divorce and see other people during this time, as friends?? What are my legal rights??

My response:

Do you want a divorce, or do you want to see other men, or both ?

Most Family Law attorneys will give you a free initial consultation to discuss your rights, the process of divorce, and the fees involved.

It's up to you, when and if you want to do this.

Divorce/Separation

THANK YOU :) for responding to me. I want both, at this point, ok? We have been "like this" for 3 plus years, it has taken its toll on everyone. He will not go to counseling, and I see no other way thru it. However, I do not want to feel like I am staying in the relationship for
"standardized living"?? That is how it feels to me now, for some time. I guess I need to make an appt. , huh? Again, THANK YOU :) for responding. Have a good night/day? :)

Unfortunately, I have been told by others, as well, to "live with the conditions" or divorce and follow a new path :) No one tells us this, at the onset, huh? :)
Life is an adventure, yes?? who knew.

My response:

I agree. Life is an adventure !

Then, we die - - as the result of a truck versus auto accident on a lonely stretch of highway, in the middle of nowhere. When our body is finally discovered, it's been inside of a wrecked and tangled hulk of metal that used to be a car. Our body is severely decomposed, and because we used to live in Arkansas, we have no teeth with which to be identified.

We are buried in a pauper's graveyard, and no one ever knows we're gone. No relatives or friends come to the burial, and no flowers are given.

But again, I agree, "Life was an adventure".

P.S. Get it ? The moral of the story is, "Life is also too short". Start living !
