My wife, here in New York, said she was going to file separation papers over our marriage. In the future she is then going to file for divorce. She explained we have to be separated for a year before we can divorce, is that true in this state?

Once she files the separation papers, she said, that effectively boots me out of the house. Is there any truth to that? I am the sole supporter & have never violent to her or any one else. I'm actually shocked over this whole separation revelation.

Once she files these separation papers does this freeze our joint assets, I.E. stock, checking acct. etc.? She didn't say anything about that.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
