My husband of 15 years and I are soon planning to file a legal seperation in New York. I am initiating this towards the end result of a divorce after a year.

My question is can he really try to stop me from introducing our two children to the man I plan to marry in the future? The kids are 8 and 11.

Thanks.

My response:

For him, it was a stupid statement to make.

For you, it was an intelligent question to ask.

The answer is no. He can't stop you from introducing your children to anyone.

Seeking as Much Info as Possible

Thanks for that answer. I'm just trying to find out as much as possible before even sitting down to draw up and file the seperation agreement.

In New York state, is a seperation agreement automatically effective for one year? After that one year, assuming that the terms of the agreement were followed, what happens with the divorce then? Will we need to come to new terms for the divorce - child custody, child care and living arrangements, who gets what, etc.?

Thanks,
