What is the name of your state? Utah

Hello,

I had been renting a dedicated server from a company in another state for about 3 years and no longer needed it so I cancelled my account. I had been paying monthly the entire time I had service with them and never agreed to any contract or conditions that would require me to use their service for a certain amount of years or cause me to have to use their service for a year at a time. Well when I cancelled my account, they immediately responded and said that my account runs until a certain date which was not for 4 more months from my actual cancellation date, and at that time I could then cancel my account. Well of course I responded and asked them to clarify, but with all attempts they have been unable and unwilling to provide any real explanation. After a month, they finally did respond with what I thought was a ridiculous answer. They said that my account does not end until a certain date because my server had a discount. So I again asked them to clarify and provide a real and detailed explanation, but they are still unable and unwilling to. I know that just because you purchase something when it's on sale does not automatically bind you to a contract. They never informed me in any which way whatsoever about my account being on a yearly basis or a contract that required me to use their service for a certain number of years until an entire month after I requested that they cancel my account. It appears that they just made it up and hoped that I would agree just like I have seen others complain about them doing.

So what I think they are doing is attempting to deceive me into believing that I must pay them for an additional 4 months beyond the time that I actually cancelled my account. They've now threatened to send my account to collections if I don't pay and are being just as unhelpful as they were from the beginning. I cancelled my credit card near the time when I cancelled my account because I was afraid that they may attempt to do something like this to me. Now this may not seem like such a big deal, but I know that they are doing this to many, many more customers than just me. I'm aware of at least a dozen others who have gone through nearly the exact same experience with them, and some much worse, when they decided to cancel. I'm sure I could find more without looking too hard. Some of the others have continued to be charged well beyond their cancellation dates and I can't even begin to imagine how much money they have probably stolen. They continue to attempt to charge me and continue sending me bills and refuse to provide any valid reason why.

I think they have probably stolen countless thousands from customers as well deceived many customers into believing that they simply had to keep paying them for no valid reason. I have seen many examples of users complaining about them doing these types of things.

I am just wondering what others think about the situation. I am not so interested in suing them for money, but rather having them investigated and shut down or whatever it takes in order to make sure that they are unable to continue doing what I think is very unethical and downright stealing/fraud/deceit or all the above. They seem to be very well aware of what they are doing and I believe they have been doing it for years. I think they will continue doing this until they are stopped and I know many others think the same. Do you think something like this is woth pursuing further? Do you think a lawyer would be willing to take on something like this? Do you have any suggestions and/or comments?

Thank you,
