What is the name of your state? MD
As a computer geek doing both repairs and web design, I have a client who is facing money issues. He is a Real Estate developer who started up a development in this area but cannot get additional funding.
Recently he called me up in a panic as his teenage kids had infected his desktop and two laptops with major infections of viruses. I gladly went over and fixed his office system and took his two laptops back to the office to diagnose and repair them.
It's now been two weeks of phone tag and I still have not been payed for my services. The one good thing is I still have his two laptops.
Is anyone familiar with MD law as to whether a lien can be placed for my services. I'd prefer the money but in worst case am willing to accept the laptops in lieu of payment...
Anyone???

Unpaid...

After consulting a litigation Attorney, I found I can do the following:
1. File in Small Claims
2. Hold his equipment until I receive payment.
For $800.00 I have the use of two new laptops while I await resolution. Definitely would prefer the money now, but in the scheme of things, at least I don't need to buy any laptops for a while...:):)
