The Police in the city I live and work in did a sting of Underage sales . I work as a cashier in a convience store. I have 4 audio cameras on me at all times. We are required to ID all Tabacco and beer sales. I had 2 customers come in The first being a man purchasing tabacco. I did ID him and completed his purchase. He stepped over and let the next person come up. But in the mean time. the first guy made the statement that if I ID him I better ID the one that is at counter to purchase beer. and the man continues to talk. I stated I needed to see a ID for the beer sale. And at my own error did not push in the year of this person birthday correctly. I am not saying I would not have made the same error without being distracted by the other customer. But if they want to bust the illegal sales of these items. Why the first person need to keep our attention on him. The person buying the beer did not speak but a few words. And that is the one that would need to distract us .
Well not only did I get a pink slip to appear in court I also got a pink slip from work. I am not angry about the job part. I am angry that no where in all the free space on this citation does it state that I attempted to follow the law. And when I appear before the judge I am sure that neither of those 2 customers will step up and offer to advise the judge of my attempts. And that a big human error was made. And the error being I turned this kids year from 87 to 78.
I need avice as to should I take a attorny into court with me and try to defend myself . Or just take my punishment and walk away. :confused:What is the name of your state?Tennessee

My response:

So, you were caught in a "Sting." Were those customers Paul Newman and Robert Redford?

You failed to properly ID the person and the sale of alcohol was completed ... thus you violated the law. Your "attempt" to comply obviously was not good enough for the officers, but ya never know with a judge. Chances are its' not going to fly with a judge, either.

You might consider consulting an attorney.

My response:

. . . or, you might consider going back to your own country, because you're definitely done here in this country.

That is a typical fat finger mistake, you go to type in 1987 and hit the left side of the 8 and it comes up 78 instead of 87 so fast you don't notice it.
I always enjoy being carded these days;) ;) Why I even got carded buying Hazelnut syrup the other day, the clerk thought it was wine:D
