Three years ago, after losing an election, our outgoing Business Manager, arranged a hefty severance package for herself, with the President and the outgoing and incoming Treasurer’s. The election was contested and she again became Business Manager.

In the interim, the new Business Manager discovered the severance pay. Our members were upset that she would arrange her own pay, when past precedence dictates we give severance pay, with membership approval.

Charges were filed with the International Office, who cleared her of any wrongdoing. The DOL investigation is still pending and the money was returned within a month. She made mention to me, that the International also stated that she would “be due” her severance pay if she were to lose the next election.

She has done a lot of damage in three years and just lost the election. We had to work hard to unseat her, because she turned our hall into her own personal ivory tower.

Can the IO force our Local to pay the severance pay? If THEY want to pay her, that’s fine. WE don’t want to.

The ironic part is, she was an administrative assistant/part-time Assistant BM for about twenty years. Until she pulled all these stunts, she did deserve severance pay. But after using our funds to pad her personal interests, we’ve had enough.

We just want her GONE. Thanks for any help.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
